MARTHA A. ADDIS, 67, of Indianapolis, formerly of Albion, died Wednesday, July 16, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Otto and Mae Shambaugh Bright. Surviving are one son, Jack B. (Eleanor) Pence of Indianapolis; one daughter, Gail Pence; one grandchild; one brother; and two sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Addis, and one brother. Myers and Sweringen contribute a long card over their signatures to the the Gazette, in which they set forth professional opinions that death was caused by violence at the hands of dissipated companions. another comrade write his complaints against the funeral sermon, preached by the Rev. AYERS, Perry

Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock occurred the funeral services of Mr. Perry Ayers from the Methodist Episcopal church of this place. The Rev. C.B. Daugherty officiated, assisted by the Poe choir. After the services the interment took place in the Bethel cemetery. Mr. Ayers was born in Litchfield county, Ohio, in 1859, but came to this state with his parents when yet a boy. They settled on a farm in Adams county. In 1877 the deceased was united in marriage to Miss Mary Fonner. They settled on a farm in Adams county and later removed to Tennessee, where they lived for several years. Returning to Indiana in 1898 he purchased a farm in Wells county near here, where his death occurred last Saturday, February 23. Mr. Ayers was a devoted church member during his life and at the time of his death was a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church of this place. He was well respected and most highly esteemed by all who knew him, and the loss to the community will be keenly felt and realized. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved relatives.

Mrs. Minnie Baals, Age 47. Active in Social Work. Ill One Week of Pneumonia.
FT. WAYNE. Ind. December 28 Spl)—
Mrs. Minnie Baals, age forty-seven. wife of Mayor Harry W Baals, died of pneumonia here last night after an illness of one week. She was taken to a hospital Saturday night. Mayor Baals, suffering from a severe cold, accompanied his wife to the hospital, but his condition was reported not serious.
Mrs. Baals was a lifelong resident of Ft. Wayne. A member of the Ft. Wayne Woman's Club, she had been active in social work here for many years. She attended the Trinity English Lutheran church.
Surviving besides the husband are a daughter. Mrs. Eugene Smith. of this city, and a son, Donald Baals, a student at Purdue University. Other survivors are three sisters and two brothers, all of Ft. Wayne.

GALEN M. BABB, 69, of Fort Wayne died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at home. He was born in Fort Wayne and retired from Forest City Management in Gary, in 1998. He graduated from Central High School and attended St. Francis University. He was a Korean War Veteran. Surviving are his three daughters, Cynthia Babb Martin and Camille A. Douglas of Fort Wayne, Carol Anita Stephens of Indianapolis; four stepchildren, Jeffrey A. Phillips, William Oneal Trigg, Anesta Phillips, and Cynthia (Molly) Trigg, all of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Theresa Moore, Liflo Queary, both of Fort Wayne, Delores Redmond of Indianapolis; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and nine step-grandchildren. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Union Baptist Church. Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home, 1021 E. Lewis St., 422-6958. Burial at Covington Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. S. R. Backus, of Toledo, who was a daughter of the late Hon. Pliny Hoagland, of this city, died early Friday morning in New York, where she, with her daughter, Miss Emma, had gone to spend the winter. News of her death came in a telegram to her sister, Mrs. Emma U. Fleming, of West Berry street. Mrs. Fleming was not aware of her sister's illness, and news of her demise was a most painful and sudden shock.
Mrs. Backus was Miss Elizabeth Hoagland, and prior to her marriage to Mr. Backus, whose death occurred some years ago, she lived in Fort Wayne. Sine her marriage, Mrs. Backus has resided in Toledo, where her husband died, and where the remains of the wife will be laid to rest. She leaves one daughter. Mrs. Emma U. Fleming, of this city, and Miss Merica Hoagland, of Indianapolis, are sisters.

FOUND DEAD IN BED. Infant of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Bacon Near New Haven, Died in Night. The Infant child, six weeks old, of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. L.Bacon, who lived a few miles south of New Haven, was found dead in bed about 8 o'clock this morning. When, after arising, the mother left her babe it was apparently sleeping peacefully. Returning late and attempting to awaken the little one she found it dead. A physican was immedlately called and later the coroner. Dr. Kegler. Death was probably due to natural causes. The father, Mr. Bacon, Is a well known farmer in that locality.

LEAH "MAXINE" BAILEY, 88, of Brookville, formerly of Trotwood, Ohio, died Monday, July 14, 2003. She was a Charter member of Basore Road Grace Brethren Church, retired from downtown Rike's after 31 years of service, and the Registration office at Sinclair Community College. She was a graduate of North Side High School in Fort Wayne. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael J. and Bonnie Bailey of Englewood (Michael is a retired teacher from the Trotwood Madison School District), Rene' and Tanna Bailey of New Port, Richie, Fla.; sister, Ardilla Winteregg of Trotwood; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Meg Bailey, Patrick and Teri Bailey, Mishael Castro, Letitia and Rodney Fugate, Giles Bailey, Shawn Bailey; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Guy W. Bailey in 1982, and a granddaughter, Rachelle Lynn Bailey in 1989. Funeral service is 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Bashore Road Grace Brethren Church, 5675 Basore Road, Dayton, with Pastors Brian White and Russell Ward presiding. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rogers' Funeral Home, 110 West Main Street, Trotwood, and one hour prior to service Friday at the church. Glenn W. Ball, son of Samuel and Mallisa Ball was born on Dec., 31st, 1889 and on the morning of May 9th 1940 came the summons to that eternal place of abode and he was gathered into the everlasting arms at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 9 days. On January 4th 1910 he was united in marriage to Eva Dasey, to this union were born four children, Harrold, Merle, Mabel and Vera. Merle having preceeded him in death, five years ago. Besides these mentioned he leaves one grandchild, Garrie, two step grandchildren. Three brothers Edward, Charles and Frank Ball, One sister Gertrude. A number of other relatives and friends. A number of years ago he united with the Christian Church; He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him

Skating Rink's Operator, Dies
Mrs. Anna K. Bell, 83, formerly of 5708 New Haven Ave., owner-operator of Bell's Skating Rink on U.S. 30 By-pass, died at 4:20 p.m. Monday in the St. Anne Home, where she had resided two years. Mrs. Bell and her husband, Joseph Bell, operated the rink until his death in 1961. Born in Chicago, she resided in Allen County most of her life and was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, New Haven, and its RosarySociety.
Surviving are four nieces, Mrs. Ida Marie Becker, Mrs. Rose Marie Dunlap, and Mrs. Irene Lenerick, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Loretta Knackstedt, Kenai, Alaska, and two nephews, Joseph Rager, Fort Wayne, and Hery Rager, Fontana, Calif. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.

BELL, Hulda E. ,

Sunday morning at 1 o'clock Mrs. Hulda E. Bell, a pioneer of Fort Wayne died at the family residence, 1720 Short street of pneumonia. The deceased was born in Pennsylvania June 24, 1826 and at the age of seventeen came with her husband to Fort Wayne and had resided here since. In the early fifties her husband worked as a constable under the late I. D. G. Nelson, who was then a justice of the peace. At the opening of the civil war he enlisted in the northern army and was killed on the field of battle in 1863. Three children survive the mother. They are Maud Elizabeth Bell, Helen Isbel Stevens and Mary Bennett Sutley; all residing in Fort Wayne. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the residence and interment will take place at Lindenwood.

The Rev. Mark Bigelow, age fifty, pastor of the Free Methodist church, died Sunday following a short illness due to coronary thrombosis. The Rev. Mr. Bigelow occupied the pulpit of the Free Methodist church since last August, coming here from Hammond. He had been a clergyman for twenty-seven years.

BILLINGS, Mary Weaver

Friday July 18, 2003 MARY WEAVER BILLINGS, 88, of Cumming, Ga., died Tuesday, July 15, 2003, in Fort Wayne. "Loving mother and grandmother," she was the widow of Dr. Thomas A. Weaver Jr. and Robert "Josh" Billings. Born Sept. 6, 1914, in Lockport, N.Y., she was the daughter of Robert T. and Jennie Holgate Furbish. She grew up there, became a Registered Nurse and married Dr. Weaver in 1939. After World War II, the Weaver's settled in Dayton, Ohio, where they lived until Dr. Weaver's retirement in 1977. She spent each summer with her family at their cottage on Lake George, Mich., where she and Dr. Weaver were active in the Inland Cat Class Sailing Association for many years. After retirement, the Weavers moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., but still spent every summer at Lake George. Mrs. Billings is survived by her six children, Charles E. Weaver of Cumming, Ga., Thomas L. Weaver of Gig Harbor, Wash., Susan J. Campbell of Fort Wayne, Molly E. Powell of Fort Wayne and James D. Weaver of Cumming, Ga. A son, Jeffrey A. Weaver of St. Petersburg, Fla., predeceased her. Nine grandchildren and 15 great-grand-children also survive. A memorial mass will be held Sept. 13, 2003, at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Petersburg. Preferred memorials to Heartland Hospice, Turnstone Center for Disabled Children & Adults or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Prominent Grocery Man Dies Suddenly
Heart Trouble Claims Henry C. Blade After One Day's Illness
Henry C. Baade, a prominent groceryman and a native of Fort Wayne, died very suddenly at 4:15 o'clock Tuesday morning at his home, 1201 Broadway. Death followed an illness of but one day and was due to heart trouble. Death came eleven days after his fifty-third birthday. The deceased was a member of the firm of Kayser & Baade. who hava been in the grocery business at Jefferson street and Broadway for over thirty years. Mr. Baade is widely known throughout the city. The news of his death comes as a shock to his many friends and acquaintances.
Mr. Baade was born and reared in Fort Wayne and had resided here practically all his life. He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran church and also of the B. U. V.
Surviving he leaves the mother, Mrs. Sophia Baade, the widow, one daughter. Miss Corinna; one son, Elmer, of Bloomington university; three sisters, Mrs. William Kayser, Miss Sophia Baade. and Mrs. Martha Horstmeyer; and two brothers. Frederick H. and Martin C. Baade. of this city.

Born May 17, 2003, in Avilla, he graduated from Avilla High School and was an Army World War II veteran. He was employed by NIPSCO for 34 years, retiring in 1981, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Virginia Bradley of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Cheryl Ann Bobay of Fort Wayne; and a son, Alan Dean Bradley of New Haven; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. Service is 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1910 Hale Ave., with calling one hour prior. John W. Brenenkant, 81, died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday at his home,439 Greenwood Avenue. Death was caused by heart disease. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the BLE, and the Trinity English Lutheran Church, of which he was a district deacon. He retired in 1939 after 45 years as a Nickel Plate Railroad engineer. Surviving are his wife, Tillie, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Marcia Brady Hollis, Ft. Wayne. The body was taken to the Klaehn Funeral Home

BRENNENKANT, Doynie (Deonis/Dennis)

Doynie Brennenkant, and old German resident, residing at 14 Swinney Avenue, fell dead in his bed room while preparing to retire for the night, last Saturday evening. His body was not discovered until Sunday morning, when his daughter, Lizzie, went to the room to investigate the reason for his nonappearance at the breakfast table. Before going to his room he exhibited no unusual signs of weakness and did not complain of being ill, but the opinion of the attending physician is that while in the act of undressing himself he was stricken with paralysis, expiring instantly. The deceased was aged 70 years, 4 mos., and 11 days. He lived alone with his daughter, Lizzie, a young lady, who kept house for him. Shortly after finding the body she received a telegram from Toledo announcing the sudden death of her sister Mrs. Lena Strasbaugh (Strausbaugh). The surviving children of Mr. Brennenkant are Mrs. William Knoll and Miss Lizzie Brennenkant, of the city, and a son, John W. Brennenkant, who works for the Nickel Plate railroad at Chicago.

TOOK POISONOUS DRUG.
Fort Wayne Man's Unsuccessfu! Attempt to End Life at Bluffton.
The Bluftton papers give an account of the attempted suicide in that city on Saturday evening of Herbert Brunn, of Fort Wayne, who was visting his parents there, by swallowing a quantity of composition used for removing varnish: Domestic difficulty is given as the cause. A physician was summoned, who administered a drug that counteracted, the effects of the poison and led to the recovery of the man and he returned here Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Brunn resided in Bluffton until a. few years ago, when they came to,this city and Mr. Brunn conducted a restaurant.

Bultemeyer: William Bultemeyer, aged ?? (could be 39) years, an employee of the General Electric Company and former resident of Frienhelm, Ind. who had lived in Fort Wayne for the past year, died at 11:30 o'clock this forenoon at the home, 1706 Koch Street. Death was due to pneumonia and followed an illness of but a few days.
Mr. Butlemeyer was married a year ago and shortly afterward moved to this city. He was a member of the Trinity German Lutheran Church. Surviving relatives include the widow, the parents, four brothers and four sister.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home and at 11:00 at the Trinity Lutheran church, the Rev. George W. doege officiating. Following the services the body will be removed to the home of the parents at Fiedheim, where services will be held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon, followed by services at the Friedhelm Lutheran church at 1:30 o'clock. burial will take place in the church cemetery
The young man will be buried on the first anniversary of his wedding as he was married April 8, 1917

VIRGINIA A. JOHNSON BURGESS, 83, died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport, Iowa. Born in Monroe, Ind. she retired in 1981, after 38 years with General Electric Company and also operated a beauty shop in her home at the same time. She was a lifetime member of VFW and Elex and member of Women of the Moose, American Legion Auxiliary, Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, GE Quarter Century Club, Punta Gorda Elks and South Wayne Baptist Church. Survivors include son, Mark (Carol) Johnson of Davenport, Iowa; daughter, Janice Eby of Englewood, Fla.; sister, Iris Walker of Englewood, Fla.; two granddaughters, five grandsons and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Mike Johnson in 1952. Services at 2 p.m. Friday with calling two hours prior at D.O. Castatter, formerly of Pierceton, IN, was to have been married today, the bride being a young woman residing with her parents on East Washington Street, but a few weeks ago she jilted him. He has been drinking heavily since then and he was in tears most of today, and at noon swallowed a large dose of carbolic acid. After suffering intense agony for 2 hours death resulted.

CENTFIVRE, Herman G.

Businessman Centlivre dies
Herman G. Centfivre, 84, died Saturday in St. Joseph Medical Center. The Fort Wayne native was former secretary-treasurer and advertising director for Centlivre Brewing Corp. He Centlivre was the grandson of Charles L. Centlivre, who founded the brewery at Spy Run Avenue and North Clinton Street in 1962. He also was president and director of Centlivre Realty Corp. and a director of O'Dowd Realty Corp. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1925 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He joined the family business in 1933 after serving in the national advertising department of Campbell-Ewald Co. in New York; Buffalo, N.Y.; Pittsburgh, and Detroit. He was a charter member of the Fort Wayne SERRA Club, an organization of Catholic men. He served on the Fort Wayne Tennis Commission for four years and was a member of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the Fort Wayne Advertising Club. Centlivre's wife, May O'Dowd Centlivre, died in 1963.
Surviving are three daughters, Suzanne C. Farmer of St. Joseph, Mich., Catherine C. Hitchcock of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Julie Kundert of Evanston, M; a son, Charles F., of Grosse Ile, Mich.; a sister, Bernice C. Popp of Fort Wayne; and 23 grandchildren. Services are 9:30 am. Samuel Wagenhals conducted the service and the pallbearers, who were among the members of the Allen County bar, were Samuel L. Morris, William P. Breen, W. H. Shambaugh, J. E. K. France, Lee J. Ninde and Judge Owen N Heaton. Business in the courts was suspended. The members of the Allen County Bar Association, the Blackford Law Club and the members of the city administration attended in a body.

DAUGHERTY, Alvin W.

Alvin W. Daugherty was born in Adams County, Indiana, August 21, 1839, and died near Hoagland, Indiana, April 27, 1911, aged 71 years, 8 months and 6 days.
He enlisted as a solider in the civil war in the spring of 1863 and served his country faithfully until the end of the war. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Shookman, November 3, 1867. To this union were born four children, one son and three daughters, one daughter dying in childhood. Mr. Daugherty united with the Concord Lutheran church in 1882 and later transferred his membership to the Antioch Lutheran church of Hoagland. he had lived a consistent christian life ever since and was a marvelous example of patience in all his sufferings. He was loved and esteemed by all who knew him. he suffered with asthma for thirty-five years, which with dropsy was the immediate cause of his death.
The funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. A.K. Mumma, in the Antioch Lutheran church of Hoagland, April 30th, and he was laid to rest in the Antioch cemetery. Our loss is his gain, for his sufferings are over, and his desire to depart and be with Christ has been realized.

Haywood M. Davis, auto dealer
Haywood M. Davis, owner of the former Davis Auto Co. for more than 50 years, died Friday in Parkview Memorial Hospital.
Davis, 84, was the only owner of Davis Pontiac, 312 E. Main St., until he sold the business to Jim Bostwick June 3, 1985. Davis said when he sold the dealership, "We've had a lot of good fortune, and whatever success I've enjoyed has been because we've tried to treat people the way we wanted to be treated." When Davis opened the showroom in 1934, it was in the middle of the Great Depression. "Sure, it was risky," Davis said. "But you've got to be willing to take a chance. About the only time Davis sold fewer cars than during the Great Depression was during World War II, when new car production stopped so automakers could produce tanks instead of sedans.
Davis took another chance in 1981, when he paid $25,000 for a franchise to sell DeLorean sports cars. But the DeLorean company went bankrupt in 1983, after Davis had sold just 10 of the stainless steel cars. Born in Warrenton, Ind., he had served as an Army captain in World War II. He was a director of Summit Bank and Parkview Memorial Hospital and a past president of Auto Dealers Association of Indiana, Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of Fort Wayne, Quest Club, Junto Club, Fort Wayne Country Club, Fort Wayne Auto Dealers Association and Fort Wayne Foundation. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Elks Lodge. He had received several business and community service awards. His wife, Ruth, died in 1982. Surviving is a son, James E. of Fort Wayne and Fort Lauderdale, Fla Services are 10 a.m. Monday in Trinity Episcopal Church. Henry Hawkins Succumbs to Infirmities Of Age
Aged Civil War Veteran Had Resided In Allen County Nearly Three Quarters Of A Century
Henry G. Dawkins, aged 80 years, a native of England, though a resident of Allen Countty for nearly three quarters of a century, and a veteran of the Civil War, died at 7 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bert Doyle, at New Haven, death being due to other infirmities of age,
Born in East Kent, England, March 10, 1838, Mr. Dawkins came to America when a mere child and after residing one winter in New jersey, the family came to Allen County where the descendant had resided continuously ever since. He was married to Mrs. Katie Moss, Feb. 15, 1868 (could be 1858) pne son, William H. Dawkins, of Indianapolis, being born to this union.
The wife died Oct. 15, 1877, and Mr. Dawkins again married two years later to Mrs. Sarah A. Furthmiller. One child Mrs. Bert Doyle, with whom the descendant had been making his home, was born to this union, The wife died sixteen years ago.
Mr. Dawkins enlisted in company R. Thirtieth Indiana Volunteer Infantry in 1861, and was honorable discharged two years later because of ill health. The descendant was the last of a large family, which was distinctive because of its longevity. He was a Scottish Rite Mason and was also affiliated with the Off Fellows Lodge.
The funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist Episcopal Church at New Haven. The Masons and Good Fellows will have charge of the services. Interment will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemtery at New Haven.

Isaac Dennis, an employee of the Pennsylvania company and a resident of Allen county for the past sixty two years, died late yesterday afternoon at the home 1714 Walton avenue at the age of seventy-four years.

Born February 10 1844, in Monroe county, Ohio, Mr. Dennis came to Allen county with his parents at the age of twelve years and had resided in this county continuously ever since. He had lived In Fort Wayne for the past sixteen years. The decedent was united in marriage to Miss Julia Sherley in March, 1867 and the aged couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary March 31, 1917

Surviving besides the widow are the following five children; George, Fred and Pearl Dennis, all of Fort Wayne; John Dennis, of Roanoke, and Lycurgus Dennis, of Rawson O, seventeen grandchildren, three brothers and one sister.

Ferdinand Dewey Ditzenberger, 72, a Fort Wayne resident most of his life, died in the Allen County Health Center where he had lived since 1950, at 11:15 a.m. yesterday. Mr. Ditzenberger operated a farm near New Haven before 1950.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at J. A. Demoney & Son Funeral Home in Columbia City. The Rev. Graham L. Kleespie will officiate. Burial will be in Coesse Lutheran Cemetery.

DWIGHT H. DONALDSON, 64, of Angola, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, in Fort Wayne. Born Dec. 7, 1938, in Newark, N.J., he was President of D&L Communications of Fort Wayne for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He was a Tri-State University graduate and U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Angola Masonic Lodge 236, Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne - Mizpah Shrine Temple, and was Demolay Dad at Angola for several years. Surviving are his wife, Marilu (Knudsen) Donaldson of Angola; a daughter, Cheryl Donaldson-Pham of Ringwood, N.J.; a brother, Kenneth Donaldson Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Marcia Donaldson of Hollis, N.H.; and one granddaughter, Annaliese Donaldson-Pham. Ruth H. Douglas, 90, of South Bend died April 20, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. She was born on Feb, 11, 1918 in Pittsburgh. She married Franklin Douglas on Sept, 25, 1938. He died in 1982. Mrs. Douglas was a member of the St. Joseph County Extension Chorus. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Jane Anne Gary of South Bend; three sons, Dale of Noblesvill, James of Bella Vista, Ark. and John of the Colony, Texas; nine granchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl and Jesse Joseph

Body Of Drowned Woman Comes To The Surface
Coroner Will Investigate Manner of Mrs. Dresden's Death in Water
Laporte. Ind.. Nov. 16.— Following the coming to the surface of Hudson Lake this morning of the body of Mrs. Hunter S. Dresden, wife of the owner the New Carlisle hotel. Coroner Osborn began an exhaustive Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the mysterious drowning of the woman who a month ago, while in a boat with her husband, disappeared, the husband being picked up after floundering in the water. He said the boat had upset and that he had been unable to save his wife, although he kept her above water for some time. Mrs. Dresden's parents live at Buchanan. Mich. while Mr. Dresden came to Hudson Lake from South Bend, Ind.

INEZ M. DRUMMER, 88, of Auburn, died Thursday, July 10, 2003, at DeKalb Memorial Hospital. She was a decorated 25-year Red Cross Volunteer. She was also a volunteer for the Republican Party and member of St. Jude's Catholic Church. She was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Continental, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Drummer in 1989, and her parents, Otto and Grace Sullivan Budd. Surviving are sons, Patrick Drummer of New Haven, Richard Drummer of Oberland, Kan., Thomas Drummer of Auburn; a sister, Rowena (Mrs. Carl) Winners of Fort Wayne; a brother, Robert Budd of Canistota, S.D.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The Knightstown native retired as a teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools after 26 years, and was a member of First Assembly of God, Order of the Eastern Star and Christian Business and Professional Association. Surviving are her husband, Ralph; a daughter, Marcia J. Baker of Aurora, Ill.; a son, David P. of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., where calling is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. GLADYS EDMUNDS, 92, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Fort Wayne, died June 7, 2003. Born June 28, 1910, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of John and Mary Shoda. She was a retired Registered Nurse and graduated from the Methodist Episcopal Hospital School for Nurses in Fort Wayne in 1931. She worked in several hospitals in Fort Wayne and Columbia City. She married Harry W. Edmunds, March 5, 1944, in Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son. She is survived by her sons, John M. Edmunds of Las Vegas, Harry W. Edmunds Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and grandsons, Douglas and Jeffrey Edmunds of Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to a local animal shelter or Humane Society.

Peter Eicher, a farmer residing near Rockford Ohio, died yesterday at the Lutheran Hosptial at the age of 65 years, death being due to embalism. The body was removed to the Peltier Morgue to be prepared for burial, and was last night shipped to Rockford, where funeral services and burial will take place.

EVARD, Julius

Evard-Julius Evard, seventy-nine years of age and a resident of Milan township for sixty-five years, died on Thursday afternoon at his homestead after a short illness from pneumonia. The deceased was one of the most respected and best known farmers of Milan township, where he settled with his parents at the age of fourteen years. Mr. Evard was born in Berne, Switzerland, August 4, 1836. In 1863 he was united in marriage to Emily Geaque, and six children, all surviving , were born to the couple During his entire life he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was very highly esteemed by everyone. The bereaved wife survives and the children are as follows: David Evard, of Aboite township, Clem, of Jefferson township; Mrs. William Black, Mrs. Delbert Brooks and Oscar Evard, of St. Joe township, and Charles, residing at the homestead. James Evard of St. Joe township, is a brother.
Funeral services are set for Saturday morning at 10 o'clock from Bowers chapel and the remains will be laid to rest in the Bowers cemetery.

Max Ewald, night switchman in the employ of the Pittsburg, Ft. Wayne and Chicago railroad was instantly killed in their yards at Ft. Wayne. He was engaged in his duties and did not notice the approach of the west bound express, which struck him. He leaves a wife and three children. On Sunday night the children of Caleb and Lewis Ferris, while playing on the ice on the pond at Parlor Coal Mine, near Jackson broke through, and two sons of Caleb Ferris were drowned. The rest of the children were rescued almost dead, but have since recovered.

FETTERS, Anna M.

FETTERS: Some time during the morning hours Friday Mrs. Anna M. Fetters, eighty-eight years of age, died at the home of her son, William Fetters, at 34 Summit street.
Though enfeebled by age, Mrs. Fetters seemed to be in usual health and when members of the family entered her room at 9 o'clock this morning she conversed with them, telling them she did not care to arise for some time. At 10:30 they again called her and found her dead in bed. Coroner Barnett made an investigation and says that death was due to old age. Mrs. Fetters was a native of Germany. Two sons, William, and Martin Fetters, survive her.

FLETCHER, Charles P.

Dec. 6,1899 Fort Wayne, IN, Charles P. Fletcher, who built the Pennsylvania and Wabash Railway into Fort Wayne, died tonight of typhoid fever, at his home, in this city. Mr. Fletcher was a native of new Hampshire and was 72 yrs old. He was a pioneer in railroad building. In 1854 he built the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago from Crestline to this city, and the following year built the Wabash from Defiance to Fort Wayne. The former road was the first to enter northern Indiana. In 1853 Mr. Fletcher established the first restaurant in Fort Wayne and a year later built the Summitt City Hotel, now the Hasmon House. He served as deputy provost Marshall during the war. He was a leading Republican for many years. For some years he owned the old Academy of Music.

Michael Flood Sunday at 11 o'clock p.m. occurred the death of Michael Flood at his residence 424 Chicago street. he had attained the ripe age of 72 years and death was caused by ills incident to his advanced years. The deceased was a widower. He was born in Kilkenny, Ireland, and lived in Fort Wayne thirty-eight years, much of the time being employed in the shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad company. The surviving children are the only son, Jerry, and two daughters, Mrs Nora Quinn and Mrs. Ellen Clemmer, all of this city. The funeral will take place this morning at 9:30 from the Cathedral.

FRIEDLINE, John

The death of John Friedline, of Monroe township, Allen county, occurred March 13, 1897, at the age of eight-five years. He was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, in 1812. On January 8, 1832, he was married to Margaret Kendie, to which union there was born nine children, five daughters and four sons. Four daughters and two sons survived him. In 1843 he emigrated to Carroll county, Ohio. In 1838 he rode horse back from Carroll county, Ohio, to Fort Wayne Ind., and entered a tract of land. In 1840 he emigrated to Monroe township, Allen county, Ind. He lived up to the time of his death near the place where he first settled fifty seven years ago. During his life he filled for years the office of justice of the peace, postmaster at East Liberty and one of the three township trustees, until the law was changed from three trustees to one. He has been a faithful member of the U.B. Church for more than fifty years, he being a charter member of the U.B. class at East Liberty, which was never disbanded or ceased to be alive for more than half a century. The funeral was held in the U.B. church at East Liberty, March 15, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Abbott. The interment was in the Brown cemetery, for the reason that his aged companion, two children and all his old neighbors and friends are buried there.

Saturday last, occurred the death of Mr. John Friedline, a pioneer resident of Monroe township, as he entered this county in 1838. The funeral was held Monday at the East Liberty church, conducted by Rev. Abbot. The deceased was aged 84 yrs, 11 months, and 2 days. The interment was made in the Brown cemetery. He was a faithful Christian and in his death the community has lost a firm citizen and the family a devoted friend. March 16, 1897

FRIEDMAN, Mrs. Anna

Mrs. Anna Friedman, aged 83 years, and a resident of Fort Wayne for the greater part of her life, died at 10 o'clock Sunday morning at the family home, 613 West Main street, death being due to complication of diseases, following an illness which the decedent had been affilcted for the past six years. She had, however, been bedfast for only the past several days.
Mrs. Friedman was born in Russia in 1835" and came to Fort Wayne many years ago. The decedent was a member off the congregation B'Nal Jacob. The following seven children survive. Harry Friedman, the Misses Jennie and Frances Friedman, Mrs. M Epstein and Mrs, Abe Levy all of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. A. B. Marks, of Hammond, and Mrs. B. S.Lichtenstadt, residing in Chicago.
Funeral services were held at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the family home, Rabbi Horwits officiatlng The body will, early tomorrow morning, be shipped to Evansville, where Interment will take place. Friends kindly are asked to omit flowers.

The Tiffin, Ohio, native retired from Parkview Hospital as a Pediatric LPN and previously worked at St. Rita's Hospital in Lima, Ohio.
